The exhibit “Stan Lee: Beyond the Book” opens this Wednesday, May 1, 2024 and runs to the end of October, 2024 at the American Heritage Center (AHC) at the University of Wyoming. This highly anticipated exhibition honors the legendary comics creator, author, editor and Marvel visionary, Stan Lee.
The exhibition itself is drawn from the AHC’s “Stan Lee Papers” collection. Researched and curated by three University of Wyoming students—Rhiannon McLean, Hazel Homer-Wambeam and Liam Leslie—it provides the first deep-dive into the collection. It displays drawings, documents, photographs and artifacts that have not been preserved elsewhere
The “Stan Lee, Beyond the Book” exhibition invites visitors to explore the life, work and enduring legacy of a true visionary. For more information about the exhibition and related events, visit the AHC website at www.uwyo.edu/ahc/exhibits.html , or email the Center at ahcref@uwyo.edu.
In the summer of 1945, cowboys were rounding up their cattle in the Bighorn Mountains. They noticed something shining on top of a ridge. They found the wreckage of a B-17 Bomber. Join Sylvia Bruner, Executive Director of the Jim Gatchell Memorial Museum in Buffalo, as she tells the story informed by a decade of research of the ten men on board the B-17 Bomber that had taken off two years earlier and never returned. This class offers Scene Study for actors to dive into their craft. Students will work together on scenes chosen by the instructor. Through this, you'll identify your strengths and weaknesses as a performer, and leave this class with a deeper insight into your process.

Bring on spring with Dr. Julie Rieder of Science Kids as we take a stroll through pastures and along Big Goose Creek watching and listening for birds as they migrate north to their summer nesting grounds. Learn some beginning birding skills, and build your confidence to tell warblers from finches from chickadees. Spring time is a great time to watch birds, with few leaves on the trees, and birds all dressed up in their stunning breeding plumage. Dress for weather, bring binoculars if you have then. We will have some, too.
Free fun for all ages 2 to 102! Please RSVP at the link.

Plaza Diane seeks volunteers to paint mural
Plaza Diane Community Center for the Arts will be adding splashes of color to downtown Powell with a new mural on the plaza at 211 N. Bent Street. Designed by Scott Larsen, the colorful wave will function as a giant paint by number with individuals, clubs, and organizations invited to join the creative fun by helping paint the wall.
Plaza Diane is seeking volunteers to work in two-hour shifts during the daytime and/or evening from May 24 to June 1. Groups can be organized in two sizes: from five to eight people or from nine to 16. All participants will be required to sign a liability waiver.
“We’re hoping for response from 4-H or FFA groups, churches, and community service organizations,” said Shelby Wetzel, president of the Plaza Diane board. “Our goal is for many people to be able to say they helped bring color and life to the community with this project.”
Wetzel noted families or groups of friends are welcome to sign up but asks that children come with supervision. Individuals are also encouraged to register, and Plaza Diane will organize groups of single volunteers. If people don’t want to paint, but would like to help with the project, Plaza Diane will accept donations to help with the cost of materials. A gift of $47 will purchase a gallon of paint for the project.
This community project is made possible with the cooperation Mike and Donne Reile who own Cut and Sew. The mural design is being painted on the wall of their building which faces the plaza. A dedication and volunteer celebration will be held at one of Plaza Diane’s Plaza@5:30 Summer Music Events after completion of the mural.
To register or learn more, contact Katie Stensing, Plaza Diane coordinator, by May 13 at plazadiane@gmail.com or 307.271.1264. An online registration form is also available at plazadiane.org.
