The Poverty Simulation - Laramie

The Poverty Simulation - Laramie

The Poverty Simulation, based on the Community Action Poverty Simulation from the Missouri Community Action Network, will focus on the day-to-day realities of life with a shortage of money and an abundance of stress. Through this program we hope to build an understanding of poverty, break down stereotypes, and engage participants in conversations about making change. During the simulation participants role-play the lives of low-income families with different strengths and challenges including extended family support, chronic illnesses, SNAP benefits, and job/school requirements. The task of each family is to provide food, shelter, and other basic needs during the simulation while interacting with various community resources. After the simulation participants and volunteers will discuss the experience and connect with opportunities to make a difference in our community.
