Psychiatrist JAMES GILLIGAN

Psychiatrist JAMES GILLIGAN. He's spent twenty-five years treating violent men, as former medical director of the Bridgewater State Hospital for the criminally insane, and director of mental health for the Massachusetts prison system. In his most recent book "Violence: Our Deadly Epidemic and Its Causes" (Grosset/Putnam) GILLIGAN puts forth his views on violence: that it is possible to eliminate most of the violence that plagues us, and that violence in America is "the result of our collective 'moral choice' to maintain the social policies" that contribute to violence.
