Lace up your running shoes and mark your calendars because the annual Pilot Hill 25k race is right around the corner! Scheduled for Saturday, June 1st, this event promises a great day on the trails, community spirit, and breathtaking views of the Laramie valley.
The Pilot Hill 25k race, the oldest continuously run footrace in Wyoming, has become an annual favorite for trail runners, drawing participants from across the region to tackle its challenging and scenic course. With miles of new single track, a tough climb, and a fun descent, this race offers competitors a great opportunity to test their endurance. A portion of proceeds from the race are donated to Pilot Hill Inc. to help support access to public land, outdoor recreation, and aquifer protection.
Organized by High Plains Harriers, Laramie’s running club, the event aims to build upon the success of previous years. Runners can expect a well-marked course, aid stations stocked with refreshments, and a supportive community atmosphere that encourages every runner to reach their personal best. Runners can compete for a “Mountain Goat” cash prize, overall awards, age division awards, and even a last place prize.
“This event isn’t just about racing - it’s about celebrating our local trails and raising funds to help preserve them for the next generation of runners,” said Kaley Holyfield, co-race director. “Of course, this event wouldn’t be possible without the support of regional running clubs and local businesses who provided generous sponsorships.”
Registration for the 2024 Pilot Hill 25k is currently open and will close on May 25th. Runners should note that there will be no race-day registration.
“Even if you don’t plan to run the race, there are lots of other opportunities to get involved,” said Matt McDermit, co-race director. “We encourage spectators to come out and cheer on runners as they cross the finish line, or folks can get more involved by signing up to volunteer on the course.”
