Wyoming Falls In Annual Health Rankings

The United Health Foundation says Wyoming has fallen 8 in spots in the organization’s annual health rankings.

Wyoming ranks 25th for overall health in 2014.  Foundation spokeswoman Kristin Hellmer says Wyoming lost ground in the number of people who consider themselves physically active and the numbers of people who are obese.  She says obesity can lead to chronic illness.  Hellmer urges health officials to be proactive.

“Some education in the state about ways to get fit and get healthy.  Ways to make lifestyle changes, portion control, and healthy choices in the kitchen when you are cooking dinner for your family, things like that can really bring those obesity and physical inactivity rankings up.”

Hellmer says Wyoming also continues to battle a lack of physicians and the fact that the state leads the nation in workplace deaths.
