A bill that outlaws chemically- induced abortions has passed a Wyoming legislative committee, despite comments that the measure is unconstitutional.
Riverton Sen. Tim Salazar called the procedure cruel and unusual, while Jackson Dr. Katie Noyes argued that it's a safe procedure that's similar to a miscarriage.
Noyes told the Senate Health and Labor Committee that the legislation will not keep Wyoming women from obtaining abortions, it wil just force them to travel.
"This is a clear example of the government interfering in a very private, personal health care decision. And I know that Wyoming senators can get behind that," said Noyes.
Sharon Breightweiser of NARAL Pro Choice Wyoming said the bill would be a direct challenge to the U.S. Supreme Court case Roe v.Wade, which is likely the purpose of the bill. It passed four to one and now heads to the Senate floor for further debate.
