Wyoming Gov. Mark Gordon praised a number of groups for working together as he officially signed his migration corridor executive order.
The order includes several recommendations developed by an advisory group that will set up how to recommend and establish wildlife corridors, along with policies for feedback. Wyoming Game and Fish Director Brian Nesvik said the order tries to address needs of a variety of stakeholders.
"It's very complex because there's a lot of interests in Wyoming. There's multiple uses of the land and there's different values," explained Nesvik. "So balancing the economic part of this along with the wildlife values, the recreational values, and all the other uses…balancing that and making sure the executive order represented that was very important."
Stakeholders praised the governor for being inclusive, and they hope that continues as plans are developed. In a statement, the Petroleum Association Of Wyoming specifically urged officials to work to find ways to develop oil and gas while protecting wildlife.
