Community Colleges may soon be able to offer bachelors degrees of applied sciences. The House gave final approval to a bill that supporters say will help economic development and can improve the number of four-year degrees in Wyoming.
Speaker of the House Steve Harshman argued against the bill saying that it was too open-ended and could end up costing a great deal of money. But Sundance Representative Tyler Lindholm called community college degrees a bargain when compared to what the state spends on K-12 education or the University of Wyoming.
Applied Science degrees could include culinary skills, industrial technology management and human resources.
Lingle Representative Shelly Duncan said these are degrees that the University of Wyoming doesn't want to offer. The bill will soon go to the governor for his consideration.
