Trump Wants To Bring Back Energy Jobs, Expand Production

Donald Trump laid out his thoughts on U.S. energy policy during a speech today at an oil industry conference in Bismarck, North Dakota.

Trump spent much of his time bashing what he referred to as Hillary Clinton's "extremist agenda."

As for his agenda, Trump wants to bring back jobs in coal, oil, and gas by rolling back what he called an onslaught of federal regulations and also by producing more fossil fuels.

But when asked about some of the market forces that are killing coal jobs, like low natural gas prices and weak international demand, he had this to say:

"Well the market forces are going to be whatever they are. All I can do is free up the coal. Which I'm gonna totally do. Get the companies back to work."

He also emphasized energy independence, a concept that U.S. presidents have been promising and failing to deliver on for decades. Issues like climate change barely came up.

"A Trump administration will focus on real environmental challenges, not the phony ones we've been looking at," Trump said.

He eventually moved on from energy to immigration, the second amendment, and ISIS.
