Flu Activity Picks Up In Wyoming

The Wyoming Department of Health has reported an increase in flu activity, and is encouraging residents to take steps to avoid spreading the virus or becoming ill.

Kim Deti, a spokeswoman for the Department of Health, says that last year’s season was especially severe with 29 influenza-related deaths reported in Wyoming. She also says that it is not too late to get the vaccine, since the timing of peak flu activity can vary from season to season.

"We’re just now beginning to see a pick up in activity the last couple of weeks. We’re not seeing a real high level of activity at this point but it is starting to pick up. We wouldn’t expect that this is the peak yet," says Deti.

Many public health providers, stores, and doctor’s offices offer the vaccine, but Deti recommends calling ahead to see what is available and whether there are certain times vaccinations are given.

The Wyoming Department of Health recommends that everyone over the age of 6 months get vaccinated.
