Downtown Cheyenne will host the fifth annual Paint Slingers street festival on July 18 and 19. Attendees are invited to celebrate urban art culture and watch regional artists in action. Desiree Brothe is one of the event organizers and said there’s something for everyone.
"We will have 14 different walls throughout downtown that artists will be painting on, so we'll have a map available. It's all very walkable," she said.
Artists will be transforming various walls into giant murals and some will also have smaller works for sale. Food trucks, live music, and linoleum printing will also take place.
Brothe added that she thinks this year's event could produce some interesting work.
"Street art typically, and traditionally is very much a commentary on society and things that are happening," she said. "We certainly have plenty to comment on nationally and regionally right now. So I will be really curious to see what the artists do."
Property owners have final approval of the murals and participating artists have agreed to keep things family-friendly. All walls that will be painted have been approved and donated by local businesses and organizers are encouraging everyone in attendance to practice social distancing.
