Wyoming Cultural Trust Fund Grant Supports WPM Wyoming Stories Project and July StoryCorps Visit

Wyoming Public Media

In May of 2013, members of The Wyoming Cultural Trust Fund board announced that Wyoming Public Media’s new oral histories project had been awarded a $25,000 grant to build its Wyoming Stories program. The program will kick off in July with StoryCorps' MobileBooth’s stop in Wyoming as its launching point.

Set against the backdrop of Frontier Days, StoryCorps will engage in a month-long visit to record stories of Wyoming residents (July 12-Aug. 3).  After the StoryCorps visit ends, WPM will continue recording stories as part of the Wyoming Stories Project. WPM staff, equipped with recording equipment, will visit various locations to preserve the vibrant and diverse histories of Wyoming residents.

After the recordings are completed, Wyoming Public Radio will build a library of recorded interviews and archival materials that will be preserved on the WPM web site, and made available to the public.

Though much of the collected material will find its way into various radio broadcasts, both locally and nationally, the central repository for all this content will be the WPM Wyoming Stories website, where material will be permanently available.

For information on how to reserve a spot in Cheyenne in July or have your story recorded elsewhere in the state, visit  http://wyomingpublicmedia.org/programs/wyoming-stories or call (307) 766-4240.

The StoryCorps interview reservations link will be up June 28.
