UW Quarterback Josh Allen Attends Manning Passing Academy

University of Wyoming quarterback Josh Allen is on his way to the Manning Passing Academy, a football camp focused on passing and catching skills put on by Archie, Cooper, Eli, and Peyton Manning.

Allen will serve as a camp counselor for younger players, and will also meet with other college players and coaches, and receive some technical training.

UW Sports Information Director Tim Harkins said only a small group of college players are invited to attend.

“It is a great honor. You know we’ve only had one other quarterback in our history, Brett Smith, who was invited before. And the Mannings, Archie and Peyton and Eli, only invite the top quarterbacks in the nation to this camp, so it is a very exclusive group that gets invited,” Harkins said.

Allen is entering his junior season at the University. In 2016 he was ranked number one in the Mountain West and number six in the nation for passing yards per completion, and was a key reason Wyoming played in the Mountain West Conference Championship Game in Laramie. He has already been mentioned by outlets like Sports Illustrated as a top pick for the 2018 NFL draft.

“Josh is getting a lot of attention,” said Harkins. “But I know he’s focused on the season ahead. He’s focused on the team’s success this coming year much as he was last year. So he’s doing a very good job of handling the attention.”

The camp runs Thursday through Sunday at Nicholls State University in Louisiana.
