The Wyoming Legislative session ended today and in his closing remarks Governor Matt Mead urged lawmakers to find a solution to a number of health care problems in the state.
The legislature voted against taking more than 100 million dollars in federal money to expand Medicaid and provide health care services to 17,600 people. Mead said legislators need to find solutions.
“How do we recognize that we have highest health care costs of any state.How do we ignore 200 million dollars in uncompensated care for our hospitals, how do we ignore that some of our hospitals are operating on 19 and 20 days of cash.”
Lawmakers did vote to spend two-point-five million dollars to help hospitals with their funding issues, but Mead said the state is not in the position to keep funding private hospitals.
