Wyoming’s primary election is Tuesday/today and despite the fact that there is not a high-profile federal or statewide candidate on the ballot, the State elections Director predicts a solid turnout.
Peggy Nighswonger says there is interest in a different set of races this year.
“I think there will be a lot of interest in the legislative races. We have 15 legislative races where the incumbent is not going to be running.
Most of those races involve Republicans, and some county clerks are already reporting that Democrats and Independents are changing party affiliation to vote in those races.
Nighswonger says if people want to change parties, they may do that at the polls and can even return to their preferred party affiliation after they vote. Many of the legislative races lack a Democratic candidate and could be decided in the primary election.
Nighswonger expects a turnout similar to the one two years ago where close to 56 percent of registered voters cast ballots.
Polls open at 7 am and close at 7 pm. Voters can register at the polls.
