After getting a Do Not Pass recommendation by the House Appropriations committee the Wyoming House of Representatives put the final nail in the coffin of a bill that would have tried to limit crossover voting in a primary election.
Senate File 97 died without debate. Bill sponsor Sheridan Sen. Bo Biteman said he wanted to require people to choose a political party prior to primary election candidates being announced. The reason is because Republicans are concerned their elections are being impacted by Democrats.
While Biteman has introduced the bill in the past, former President Donald Trump endorsed it this year. Many viewed that as a move to keep non-Republicans out of voting in the U.S. House Race between Rep. Liz Cheney and main challenger Harriet Hageman, who Trump endorsed.
But during a committee hearing this week Independents protested the move saying they’d be disenfranchised, especially when it comes to voting in local races.
