The Wyoming House and Senate approved the state budget and agreed on restoring funding for the University of Wyoming Gender Studies program while also requiring the University to provide them with some information.
House Appropriations Chairman Bob Nicholas said the University requires students to take courses not connected to their major that have to do with things like drinking or healthy sex classes that can impact their ability to register for classes in their major. Nicholas said they want to understand the purpose of such things.
“We’re not interrupting the obligation to take your fundamental core classes, that’s not what this does,” said Nicholas. “We want to know the one’s that are outside your core classes that are mandatory that adds to the cost of the educational process, what courses you have to take in order to graduate?”
He added that was the only compromise they could agree to with the Senate in order to get the funding restored. The bill now goes to the governor for his consideration.
