After a tornado touched down just north of Laramie Wednesday evening, observers flooded social media with photos and videos of the twister, and the Washington Post called the picturesque storm “Tornado of the Year.”
While the funnel was clearly formed and visible for miles, the National Weather Service in Cheyenne did urge caution.
The agency tweeted, "As picturesque as it may look, we ask that you take shelter now. No picture is worth getting hurt."
Despite being on the ground for the better part of an hour, there were no reports of injuries or fatalities as of Thursday morning, and damage to property has been spotty. An assessment of damage is currently underway.
According to the National Weather Service, there is still a risk of severe storms for southeastern Wyoming throughout Thursday, with large hail and more tornados possible.
