WYDOT Making Select Services More Accessible To Yellowstone Employees

Employees of Yellowstone National Park and park concessions company Xanterra will have easier access to some Wyoming Department of Transportation services next year.

WYDOT Director Bill Panos said his department is currently working to make it easier for employees living at Yellowstone National Park headquarters in Mammoth Hot Springs to get Wyoming driver’s licenses and vehicle registrations.

The main problem, Panos said, is that it is a several-hour drive to the nearest WYDOT office from there, and there has also been some confusion because of the town’s proximity to Montana.

While the number of new car registrations and licenses will probably number just in the dozens, Panos said it’s still an important thing to fix.

“When we have an area of non-compliance or a population that isn’t able to get their vehicles registered or licenses, we should do everything we can to make it as convenient as possible for them and that’s really what we’re trying to do,” he said.

Starting in the spring, WYDOT will distribute materials on the requirements for licenses and vehicle registration along with new hire paperwork.

“In addition to that, we’ll be opening up a sort of an office at Mammoth Hot Springs maybe once or twice a year,” said Panos.

Panos says they hope to have the new materials and pop up office ready for Spring of 2018.
