A former Wyoming Olympian and University of Wyoming Graduate will be serving as a U.S. Representative for the February Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia. Sarah Konrad graduated from U.W. with a PhD in Glaciology in 2001 and went on to qualify in cross country skiing and the Biathlon at the 2006 games in Torino, Italy. Konrad currently works at U.W. as the Associate Director of Wyoming’s Experimental Program to Stimulate Competitive Research.
Konrad is active with the U.S. Olympic committee and will be at the games to ensure American team members do not violate Olympic rules and to help athletes compete to the best of their abilities.
“The biggest goal of the U.S. Olympic committee being on the ground and in the village at the games is to make sure that all the athletes have no stresses other than their competitions to deal with,” she says.
Konrad says the U.S. may medal in areas where Americans are normally not competitive. She will be watching the biathlon closely for a chance to see an American win for the first time.
Konrad works at the University of Wyoming as the Associate Director of Wyoming’s Experimental Program to Stimulate Competitive Research. The winter Olympics will run from February 7thto the 23rd.
