Wyoming’s incoming Speaker of the House plans to introduce another piece of legislation that attempts to improve Workplace Safety in the state.
Gillette Republican Tom Lubnau is proposing a ten-percent reduction in Workers Compensation rates for companies that complete the Workplace Safety Contracts program. Lubnau says that involves helping employers create a safer work environment for their employees.
“Just encouraging those people to act appropriately and then get some financial rewards that are tangible, over and above the intangible rewards of having a safer workplace, which we believe results in lower operating costs and a more competitive business.”
The Department of Workforce Services estimates that the program will cost one-million dollars a year. Last year, the legislature approved grant money to help companies purchase safety equipment and increased the number of safety inspectors in the state.
