A Wyoming man is accused of breaking U.S. trade sanctions by selling diesel engine parts to a company in Syria.
The Casper Star-Tribune reported Monday that Matt Kallgren of Afton allegedly sold more than $40,000
worth of parts to an unnamed company despite warnings about the sanctions. He didn't respond to the newspaper's request for comment.
The United States has banned sending products other than food, medicine and cell phones to Syria because it's accused of supporting terrorism. According to an indictment, UPS refused to ship parts from
Kallgren to Syria in 2006 because of the sanctions. Federal prosecutors say he was able to ship parts to Damascus in May 2007 but federal customs officials noticed and issued him a warning. In
2008, he allegedly shipped more parts through Dubai.
