On August 23, the Friends of a Legacy will be celebrating the official completion of a wild horse educational kiosk and highway designation. This past winter, legislature passed a bill designating a stretch of highway between Cody and Emblem as Wild Horse Highway. Marion Morrison, the executive director of the Friends of a Legacy, said it's important to educate people traveling on the highway.

"Many people don't know the horses that they are passing when they come through the Big Horn Basin are wild horses," Morrison said.

She said the other part of this project is an education kiosk located 27 miles east of Cody on the Greybull Highway. It has six panels on different aspects of wild horses.

"There's information about the wild horses and their behavior. Several panels on the plight of wild horses in the west and what's going on with wild horses in the west and there's also information about the McCullough Peaks Wild Horse Herd Management Area specifically," said Morrison.

The McCullough Peaks Wild Horse Herd Management Area is east of Cody and north of the designated highway. Morrison said she hopes more people will now learn about the wild horses of the west.
