A new anthology of Wyoming writers offers a current snapshot of the state’s literary tradition. The book’s release is being celebrated with readings and book signings in six communities around the state.
‘Blood, Water, Wind, and Stone’ features the work of more than 70 poets, fiction, and non-fiction writers. Editor Lori Howe says the title reflects the overall theme that runs through the anthology.
“The overwhelming theme of it is that sense of living at the intersection between human society and this harsh and often unforgiving landscape,” Howe said. “The work that I sought for this anthology celebrated the uniqueness of living in that space, here on the high plains and in the mountains.”
Howe says the book’s contributors were selected from a thousand submissions. ‘Blood, Water, Wind, and Stone’ features a wide range of authors, from poets laureate to writers being published for the first time.
The publisher, Jackson-based Sastrugi Press, will contribute a portion of the book’s profits to scholarship funds for the Jackson Hole Writer’s Conference and the Wyoming Writer’s Conference.
A series of readings and book signings over the next two weeks will feature a number of the collection’s authors.
