Start-Up Wins NFL Competition For Advancements In Protective Equipment

The football season may be over, but the conversation around concussions marches on. The day before the Superbowl, the NFL gave three winning companies $50,000each to help them develop superior athletic technology.

One was Impressio, which specializes in protective materials that could be used to line helmets. Carl Frick is the Vice President of Research at Impressio and the head of the Mechanical Engineering Department at the University of Wyoming. He told Wyoming Public Radio's Caroline Ballard how liquid-crystal elastomers could help reduce concussions.
