Wyoming Republican Party Looking Forward To Trump Administration

Matt Micheli

Wyoming U.S. House Representative Cynthia Lummis is rumored to be on the short list for Secretary of the Interior in the Trump administration and the Wyoming Republican Party is doing what it can to make that happen.

State party chairman Matt Micheli said at this point it’s just a matter of trying to put in a good word in Washington.

“You know the transition team is assembled and there are people on the transition team that I know well," he said. "We can raise our hand and say ‘hey.'”

Micheli said he hopes having Wyoming people in a Trump administration will mean more attention for Western issues.

Either way, he hopes the administration works quickly once appointments are finalized.

“You have two years to really get most of the critical things you want to have happen done,” said Micheli. “Because after two years everybody starts posturing for the election and, you know, things don’t move very fast back in Washington D.C., so you better jump on it right away and push those things as quick as you can.”

Republicans now control the White House and both houses of Congress. Trump won Wyoming in the election with 70 percent of the state’s vote, the highest margin of any state.
