Sen. John Barrasso faces two Republican opponents in next week’s primary election. One of them is Thomas Bleming of Lusk.
Bleming is a former soldier of fortune and says what most sets him apart from the incumbent is that he opposes the Patriot Act, which Barrasso voted for.
Bleming says to balance the federal government, he would make sweeping cuts.
“I would want to see all foreign aid cut – every penny of it cut, to every country,” he said. “Another thing that I would like to stop, or de-fund, is FEMA, Department of Homeland Security, Transportation Safety Administration (you know, the airport gropers), and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.”
Bleming says he thinks the Affordable Care Act should be voted out or substantially amended, and he opposes the EPA’s new regulations regarding emissions from coal-fired power plants.
Emmet Mavy, the other Republican opposing Barrasso, did not respond to requests for an interview. The primary is August 21st.
