The Federal Emergency Management Agency is making over $480,000 available to help landowners recover from the Mullen Fire that occurred in the Medicine Bow National Forest last fall. It burned almost 180,000 acres.
Albany County Emergency Management Coordinator Blake Halsey said the money is specifically to assist property owners deal with a multitude of hazards created by the blaze.
"This money will definitely help property owners with debris flow or flooding on their property, or may have severely burned trees that are close to structures that are still left," said Halsey.
He added that money can also be used to restore grasses and other defensible space that was destroyed by the fire.
