Lander's LocalFest Celebrates "Good Bacteria"

Many consumers are interested in the benefits of so-called ‘good bacteria’ in curing foods and gardening. That’s why this year’s LocalFest in Lander is offering a film festival, gala dinner and workshops celebrating microbes. LocalFest organizer Stefani Smith says the highlight will be a hands-on composting workshop with author Jeff Lowenfels.

"Jeff Lowenfels we brought in this year to focus on microbes and composting and compost teas. He’s an author of a book that’s nationally acclaimed-- Teeming with Microbes—said to be one of the most important books to be produced in the last 25 years on gardening," says Smith.

Smith says they’ll also host a discussion on how the Food Freedom law has affected Wyoming food producers. It allows Ag Producers to sell raw milk, eggs, and prepared foods. The festival starts this Wednesday and runs through October 18 in Lander. For a complete schedule, visit the LocalFest website.
