State wildlife officials suspect intentional poisoning after a raccoon, a skunk, a coyote, and three domestic dogs died near the Timber Creek Ranger Station west of Meeteetse last week.
Alan Osterland is the wildlife supervisor at Cody’s regional Game and Fish office. He says there are several signs that point to intentional poisoning
"They all died very quickly and they were all obviously in the same area. And the sample they were able to collect from the stomach contents of one of the dogs, it appears to be a processed piece of meat. And one of the vets suspects poisoning," he says.
Testing on that suspected poisoned meat is underway.
If you find a dead animal in the area, Osterland suggests you put any pets on a leash and immediately call the Game Warden or Sheriff at 1-877-943-3847.
