The National Science Foundation announced today (Friday) that the University of Wyoming will receive a 20-million-dollar grant to study water resources in the state. It’s the largest grant ever received by the University. U-W Researcher Steve Holbrook says they hope to answer a number of water related questions and help future water managers.
“Is to provide science based tools that will help water managers better understand why runoff varies the way it does from year to year. It’s a function of a lot of things, it’s a function of climate, it’s a function of forest fires, and beetle kill, and all these changes that are happening. ”
Holbrook said they’ve never had a scientific answer to some of the issues they will study. Four U-W colleges will participate in the effort.
