The Wyoming Senate has given initial approval to a bill that would provide grant money to small businesses to have OSHA determine whether they have a safe workplace.
Wyoming has consistently ranked as one of the most dangerous states in the country for workers, and Republican Eli Bebout of Riverton sees this as a way to use a positive approach to improve workplace safety.
"We give the small employers an opprtunity to utilize this consulting service and be able to have the people come out and look at their businesses, tell them what's wrong and ultimately come back to see that changes have been made,” says Bebout.
Bebout says if changes aren't made there couldbe sanctions. However, Senator Charles Scott objected to using state money to provide grants to private businesses. The bill will be debated two more times.
