A group of citizens wants the Campbell County School District to allow a new long-term care facility to be built on land where an abandoned school, administration building and bus barn now stands. Gillette resident Tom Johnson says the current nursing home facility needs to be updated. The plan is to build a new long term care campus for residents that can better assist them at various stages of the aging process.
“Then you have the opportunity to age in place. To moving on into your campus where you need assisted living and then you need skilled nursing care, then maybe you need hospice care. If we build a campus that can encapsulate those stages of life, it is a win, win for our community.”
Johnson notes that the nearly 13 acres of land is across from the current hospital. He said the county gave the school district the land many years ago and added that if the school board returns the favor it would go a long ways towards getting a new facility built. The board will take public comment on the proposal Tuesday night at 7 pm at the Educational Service Center Board Room in Gillette.
