Greybull Saddlemaker Heads To The White House For Made In America Showcase

John Blair

A Wyoming saddlemaker will represent the state at the Made in America product showcase at the White House on Monday, October 5.

J.L. Blair Saddlery is located right in between Greybull and Shell. Owner John Loren Blair studied under his father and eventually T.J. Holmes, a trophy saddle maker for Cheyenne Frontier Days.

Blair said he's very excited to go to Washington D.C. and showcase his work, especially because he’ll be representing everyone that does leather work.

"Because I have to rely upon people that ride a horse, the horse industry, the cattle industry, the sheep, people, tourists," said Blair. "And of course, anybody that ever builds anything in this state, and there's lots of them."

Blair said he will have only a small table so he can’t really bring any of his large works.

"I have a half scale miniature saddle to represent the saddle making trade," said Blair. "But also the leather working trade, I've got a leather vase, a doctor's bag, a weekender bag, and smaller items that are put on the table in place there to represent what I do."

This is the fourth annual Made in America event. It's goal is to portray what products can be made in the United States.
