The Lander Art Center is highlighting artists from the Wind River Reservation with an exhibit called "Art of Home." The show features beadwork, paintings, photography, sewing and sculpture from more than a dozen Native artists.
Curator Jordan Dresser, a citizen of the Northern Arapaho Tribe, said he chose the name "Art of Home" because the work tells a story about life on the Wind River Reservation.
"It tells a story about the land, it tells a story about their family, it tells a story about the love of their life. We all come from somewhere and the places that we live influence ourselves," Dresser said.
This marks the seventh year that the Lander Art Center has hosted a show celebrating Wind River artists. Many of this year's pieces are for sale.
Dresser said he hopes this show will challenge the stereotype that Native art is a thing of the past.
"Museums and universities often freeze us and we get stuck in a moment in time," Dresser said. "This is a very big opportunity for somebody to learn about us, that we're living, thriving people."
"Art of Home" will be on display at the Lander Art Center through October 26.
