Wyoming begins the 2012 football season at Texas

The Wyoming Cowboys football team begins play Saturday (today) at nationally ranked Texas.

The Cowboys lost to the Longhorns in Wyoming football coach Dave Christensen’s first two seasons.  He says his team is better this year, but they will have to prove it.

It’s just a different team, we’ve got more depth, we are just a better football team.  Texas is a good team too, as they have been every time we’ve played them.  Our kids have competed well for a half both times we’ve played them.  Our challenge is that we’ve got to go out and compete well for 60 minutes.

Christensen adds that  the Longhorns are extremely physical.

“Last year they had a tremendous defense, they are bringing their offense along.  We know they are a physical team, they like to run the football, and very athletic in all areas.  It will be a great challenge for us.”

Wyoming returns 13 starters from a team that played in the New Mexico bowl.  It’s the season opener for both teams.  Kickoff is Saturday night at six.
