Archives On The Air 189: Wyoming Women Making Democracy Work

The League of Women Voters was a grassroots organization formed in 1920 to teach women in the U.S. how to use their new voting power after passage of the 19th amendment.

In the 1950s the League established chapters in the West. Wyoming's chapter was formed in 1957. A national organizer oversaw Wyoming's early meetings.

League policies were strict. Members had to always wear hats and carry gloves when soliciting funds.

Over the years the League expanded its mission to conduct nonpartisan research on job equality, the environment, and more.
