High early voting numbers could mean strong turnout tomorrow

State officials are expecting strong voter turnout tomorrow.

State elections director Peggy Nighswonger says in the last presidential election, about 65 percent of registered Wyoming voters cast ballots, and turnout could increase this year.

“If early voting, or absentee voting, is any indication, … it could be a little bit higher hopefully,” Nighswonger said.

More than 25 percent of registered voters have already cast absentee ballots, compared to 19 percent in the last presidential election.

Nighswonger says the increase could just mean that absentee voting is becoming more popular, or it could be indicative of greater interest in this year’s election.

Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. tomorrow.
