Cole Creek Fire Victims Still Need Assistance

State Forester Bill Crapser said that between 15 to 20 structures have been lost in a grass fire that burned some 15 square miles north of Casper.

Crapser is blaming warm and dry conditions for the fire that he says is unusual for this time of year.  Hundreds of residents had been evacuated. When they return to their homes Red Cross spokeswoman Pat Kondas said they will need more than food and water.

“We are asking for new rakes and shovels, leather work gloves, you know clean up supplies that will help people sort through the remains. You know all some people have left is standing chimney, or a doorway or something.”

She said if they need assistance they should identify themselves.

“It’s hard to find people they kind of scattered you know, so we are asking that people come into the office. They can call us for more information, but they need to come into the office so that we can assist them.”

Kondas is also asking that people needing assistance come to Red Cross headquarters at 318 west B Street in Casper. She says office hours are from eight in the morning until seven at night.
