Governor Appoints UW Science Task Force

The University of Wyoming is looking to upgrade its science programs in an effort to become a top-tier research University.

Last week Governor Matt Mead appointed a task force to look into steps the University of Wyoming can take to raise the caliber of its science programs.

Members of the task force include former Wyoming governor Dave Freudenthal, several distinguished alumni, as well as current and former executives of companies like Shell, QUASAR, and Heska Corporation. The panel’s 9 new members will join an existing team of senior UW faculty members already working on the initiative.

The group will look at plans to remodel and upgrade lab facilities, as well as emphasize the school’s current strengths.

The panel will meet in Laramie for the first time the weekend of September 9th, and hopes to report its findings and suggestions to the governor by November 1st. Any proposed University funding will be considered by the Wyoming Legislature’s Joint Appropriation Committee.
