The US Geological Survey will merge operations from their Wyoming and Montana Water Science Centers this fall.
The centers measure stream flow and quality in each state, which share two water sheds and have similar geography.
Wyoming-based USGS Hydrologist says currently, each team can only do monitoring up to the state line.
“This will be an opportunity for us to really kind of break down that border between our states and be more efficient with how we do field runs. As well as really tap into expertise that each of our states has. So this merger should really be seamless.”
Miller says the USGS has opted not to fill the vacant Wyoming director and administrator positions, and Montana’s director will now oversee operations for the Water Science Center in both states.
USGS says this way, operations should run more smoothly without closing offices or cutting staff.
