Environmental attorney disappointed by attempts to overturn EPA regulations

An attorney with the Wyoming Outdoor Council is disappointed that a number of states and industry officials are working hard to overturn the new Environmental Protection Agency standards dealing with air pollution from power plants.

Bruce Pendry is reacting to reports that more than 130 coal companies, electric utilities, trade associations and states are suing the EPA in federal court to remove the health standards.

“Trying to overturn this federal rule cannot be justified if you care about public health.  There is simply no denying that mercury when introduced into the environment and is extremely toxic especially to children.”

Pendry is especially disappointed that some states are not supporting the health standards.  But he's optimistic that the courts will uphold the standards as the U-S Senate did on Wednesday.
