Cheyenne Art Show And Sale Draws Entries From Around The Country

Nearly 300 works of Western art go on display-and on sale-this weekend in Cheyenne as part of the 38th annual Western Spirit Art Show and Sale at the Cheyenne Frontier Days Old West Museum.

The museum's marketing director, Morgan Marks, said the show is growing in national recognition; this year, three independent jurors curated the exhibition from more than 700 entries.

"Because of the juried nature, it changes each year, and because it's a competition, I think the quality of the art just keeps increasing," said Marks.

The juried collection features work by artists from around the country, with a mix of classic and contemporary takes on Western art in a variety of media.

"I think this [it] shows you the breadth and diversity of Western life, what it's like to live out on this side of the world," said Marks.

Wyoming artists are well represented this year, with 53 pieces in the show. The Western Spirit exhibition opens Saturday, March 2 and remains on display through April 14.
