Music, Illustrated: Wyoming Symphony Teams With Artist For Season Finale

The Wyoming Symphony Orchestra in Casper has teamed up with an illustrator for this weekend’s season finale concert. Igor Stravinsky’s 'Petrouchka' was originally written as a ballet about the story of a young puppet brought to life by a wizard. Wyoming Symphony music director and conductor Matthew Savery will tell the audience the story and have the orchestra demonstrate how the music replicates human movement. And Casper artist Zachary Pullen has created illustrations that will be projected in the concert hall while the orchestra plays.

Savery says 'Petrouchka' is a natural fit for visual art. “Live performance--we have to remember that people listen with their eyes, and it’s a live experience. If we just want to hear the notes, the best place to do that is in a recording. But a live performance, to me, is an experience that’s all encompassing.”

The second half of the concert features violinist Alexander Markov performing a virtuoso concerto by Paganini. Those attending can view student art inspired by 'Petrouchka' on display in the John F. Walsh auditorium lobby before the concert on Saturday night.
