In May of 2013, members of The Wyoming Cultural Trust Fund board announced that Wyoming Public Media’s new oral histories project had been awarded a $25,000 grant to build its Wyoming Stories program. The program was kicked off in July, when the nationally acclaimed StoryCorps rolled its MobileBooth into the parking lot of the Laramie County Public Library in Cheyenne.
Set against the backdrop of Frontier Days, StoryCorps engaged in a month-long recording fest, capturing stories from Wyoming residents. After the MobileBooth left, WPM continued with its own version of StoryCorps called Wyoming Stories. WPM staff, equipped with recording equipment, visited locations throughout the state preserving the vibrant and diverse histories of Wyoming residents.
Though much of the collected material finds its way into various radio broadcasts, the central repository for all this content is the WPM Wyoming Stories website, where material will be permanently available.
