After more than two decades of representing Wyoming in the United States Senate, Mike Enzi is retiring. Some of his colleagues say his departure is going to leave a huge deficit in the upper chamber.

Longtime political candidate Charlie Hardy is taking another run at public office. Hardy, who’s run as an independent and a Democrat is now running against Senator John Barrasso as a Republican. Hardy is someone who says he doesn’t believe in political parties, but he always considered himself an Eisenhower Republican and that’s why he says he’s suited for this race. He speaks with Wyoming Public Radio’s Bob Beck. 

The U.S. Senate put its partisan tendencies aside this week and passed a sweeping bill aimed at modernizing the U.S. energy sector. The bill includes provisions that could help the state’s ailing energy industry.

As Republicans prepare to take charge of the U.S. Senate, Wyoming Senator John Barrasso is chairing the committee that sets up the Republican agenda. Senator Barrasso says they have a number of topics to get started on.

Charlie Hardy says he’s always had an interest in politics and in helping the poor. He did this as a former Roman Catholic Priest and he wants to do this as the next U.S. Senator.
