The Wyoming Business Council (WBC) has released its annual benchmark report. This year's report shows that through two of the Wyoming Business Council's grant programs, Kickstart and Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR), start-ups created 30 jobs and received $4.65 million in follow-up investments.

Northern Wyoming Community College District

This summer, Walter Tribley took over as the president of the Northern Wyoming Community College District. Tribley has 20 years of experience in higher education. Most recently, he was the president of Monterey Peninsula College in California. Wyoming Public Radio's Catherine Wheeler sat down with Tribley at Sheridan College to talk about his goals as he begins his new position.

Cheyenne Mayor Marian Orr sees accessible, affordable, high-speed broadband as critical to the city's prosperity and future. Back in January, she announced the formation of a broadband task force. The City Council recently adopted a resolution drafted by the task force following several months of research.

A new effort at the University of Wyoming is designed to turn academic research into businesses. The creation of the Institute of Innovation and Entrepreneurship got a vote of approval from the UW board of trustees last week.

A Brooklyn-based design company is moving its inventory and order fulfillment hub to Pinedale. Artist Stephanie Housley creates embroidered home décor under the brand name Coral and Tusk, which is sold around the world. 

About a year and a half ago, she and her husband decided to move from Brooklyn to the western part of Wyoming. Housley said the landscapes she has visited in the state inspired many of her designs.

Northwest College in Powell hosted the first Wyoming Agriculture Diversification Summit this week. The two-day conference invited agriculture business leaders from around the country to present innovative ideas to state producers and business sponsors.

David Stover, the owner of a consulting firm on innovation and strategy, said the key to innovation is to understand what assets and competencies already exist. He said two assets stand out in Wyoming, including access to water.

The state’s economic diversification group, or ENDOW, has submitted its first report to Governor Mead and the state legislature. It attempts to establish a baseline on the status of Wyoming's economy. The report outlines workforce data, state-by-state comparisons, and trends in different sectors.
