Colorado researchers launched a website Tuesday to help people make difficult decisions about living with dementia. An estimated 5 million people in the U.S. are living with Alzheimer’s disease, the most common form of dementia.
The National Center for Health Statistics reported over 250,000 deaths attributed to dementia in 2017. This includes deaths from Alzheimer's Disease, unspecified dementia, and other degenerative nervous system diseases.
A fund devoted to finding a cure for dementia brought in $75 million. The American Association of Retired Persons started the campaign “Disrupt Dementia” on June 25 to bring more attention to the illness, which does not have a cure.
Over half of Wyoming’s nursing home residents currently have moderate to severe dementia…and that number is expected to rise steeply in coming years. By 2020, there may be as many as 13,000 people who are experiencing serious memory loss in Wyoming. And there’s not enough space for all them in Wyoming’s nursing homes. Wyoming Public Radio’s Melodie Edwards reports.
