For the last few years, Wyoming Public Radio has been producing a podcast that tells long form narrative stories for and about Westerners. It’s called The Modern West and we’ll be rolling out the sixth season of the podcast in the coming weeks. Wyoming Public Radio’s Kamila Kudelska sat down with the host and producer of the show, Melodie Edwards, to hear what she’s up to this time around.

Gov. Mark Gordon started his State of the State Wednesday, Jan. 11, by honoring a Carbon County EMT who died while responding to an accident right before Christmas. Gordon thanked all of the state’s first responders, including healthcare providers, in the state.

In 2020, the state came out with a report analyzing contributing factors in the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Peoples (MMIP) movement. This week during the tribal committee meeting before the Wyoming legislature, an update was given by the Wyoming Survey and Analysis Center.

This week a candlelight vigil honors the memory of a Northern Arapaho man whose death has brought scrutiny to how police in Riverton handle cases involving the Indigenous community.

“Who She Is” is part of the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Person (MMIP) Taskforce efforts to spread awareness on the issue in Wyoming. The film hopes to tell a more intimate story about the lives of three Indigenous women who either went missing or were murdered.

The FBI in New Mexico recently released a public list of almost 180 missing Indigenous people throughout the state and Navajo Nation. They’re hoping that groundwork could be a model around the Mountain West and the nation to create similar lists.

During the third annual Missing and Murdered Indigenous Person (MMIP) march on Wind River Reservation everyone wore red. Many hung their heads in remembrance of loved ones lost as a prayer was said as drums played.
