While most of Wyoming is resisting COVID-19 vaccines, the University of Wyoming Cowboys football team sits at 96 percent vaccinated.
Head Coach Craig Bohl said last season was difficult with worries about COVID and some players opting out. Bohl said the best way for them to compete for the Mountain West title was to get vaccinated.
"One of the things that we encouraged is that we're going to have a chance to get back to normal and you’re going to be able to function if you get vaccinated. We have all these people that are sitting on the sideline. This is not about a political issue, this is about trying to win football games," said Bohl. "So these are the steps we’ve taken and I applaud our team for doing that."
Bohl said for players to eat at the training table and to attend in-person team meetings they needed to be fully vaccinated. Otherwise, they need to wear a mask while picking up their food and eat in their rooms. Those not vaccinated also have to attend meetings remotely.
